今年忽然想要好好來記錄一下小牛的英文閱讀書單，是因為過去這一年(小牛一年級時)
雖然他在英文speaking&reading的起步比較晚，但是小牛一年級時，我們除了每天持續不間斷地在中文學習上下功夫
美國學校的學習(reading&math)我們仍然也花費了相當的努力，所以小牛在一年級下學期時就已經可以閱讀AR3.5~4.1左右的英文書了
以一個那麼晚才接觸英文的孩子來說，我覺得他的英文reading進步得非常快
我們家的孩子是在全中文的環境下長大的，K的時候才算是比較大量的接觸英文，而K這個時段我們又全力衝中文閱讀和識字
所以當時我對小牛在美國學校課業的學習，我只把他每天在學校做的worksheet，回家再替他複習一遍，確認他都會
偶爾有空的時候我們聽聽phnics的CD，如此而已，我們甚至連英文的閱讀也不常做
但我一直很慶幸我當初做了這樣的決定，讓小牛在K那一年，可以全心在中文的學習上，以至於到現在可以一個月中文有26萬字的閱讀量
不過上了一年級後想當然爾，他的英文一定不會好到哪裡去，而我也不希望孩子因為英文不好，而影響在校各方面的學習
甚至因為學習受挫而沒有自信，所以一年級起，我除了持續專注在他們中文的學習外，對於美國學校的學習-reading&math上花費了相當的時間和工夫
就這樣一年級時，我每天陪著小牛從非常簡單的英文書讀起
漸漸地半年後，我發現他在一年級下學期時，已經可以閱讀字非常多的章節書了
我們district每年有3次的reading和Math考試，小牛在一年級學期末最後的一次英文reading，已經達到我們district 93%了
到了二年級時學校開學考試，更是已經高達98%
既然他在二年級時，已經在英文的閱讀上有一定的水平了，所以二年級開始，我希望他多接觸不同種類的英文書
(其實一下開始，他就有稍微開始閱讀一些簡單的science、math書籍)
所以現在小牛接觸的英文書已經不再侷限在fiction，他已經開始在接觸不同領域的nonfiction書籍(finance，science，Math，social studies，autobiography....等)
而finance的書是我們今年二年級時才開始嘗試的，因為這些書單也都是我平日有花一點時間研究的，所以現在我就會特別記錄下來
這樣等弟弟二年級時，也可以從這些哥哥閱讀過的書單中，去挑選符合他閱讀的書單
其實我還蠻喜歡美國英文的閱讀書單，書籍分級分的非常明確
你很容易可以依照小孩的閱讀level，選擇適合他閱讀的書
我發現雖然小牛的中文閱讀程度已經算不錯，閱讀量也多，但是他對英文閱讀的需求並沒有因此而減少
更是常常下課後，就抱著一本英文書看
因為我希望他中、英文可以閱讀平衡，甚至有一點私心，希望他目前的閱讀重心還是在中文
而現在開學後，下課之後的彈性時間真的非常有限，所以我不得不限制小牛在英文閱讀上的時間
所以雖然小牛可以看到AR4.5或Lexile 740的書，但通常他每日的閱讀書單會在AR3或者Lexile 550 左右
因為通常這種level的書，小牛已經算可以輕鬆閱讀，而且又可以從閱讀中獲得不少東西
也不會因為一時看的太著迷占用太多時間閱讀英文，而讓中、英文閱讀比例失衡

有些學校會有AR考試，可以測學生的閱讀程度，如果沒有你也可以從Grade Level上大致對照一下AR和Lexile的程度
Grade Level 2.1就是二年級上學1個月，Grade Level 2.2就是二年級上學2個月，以此類推....
不過每個孩子的閱讀程度，也不能完全依照Grade Level來分級，所以還是要選擇孩子just right books levels
很多的書都會標示Lexile程度，可以在借閱時參考一下
目前小牛閱讀的書單，大多落在這個等級
通常我每1~2個禮拜去一次圖書館，一次就大概借這麼多書 (小牛、小兔2人的閱讀量)
從小牛小一時唸英文書，我就是坐在他身邊陪他逐字逐句唸，等慢慢的他開始可以念章節書有一定的程度後
改成他閱讀後我們一起討論故事內容，當然前提也是我要先自己看過這本書，才能陪小牛做閱讀後的討論
但是隨著他的閱讀能力越來越好，老實說我已經趕不上他的閱讀速度，他一天有時候可以同時看上好幾本英文書
我真的也沒辦法，把他看過的每一本書都看過，然後再進行討論
所以現在我採行的方法，是每天陪他進行一本nonfiction書籍的閱讀後討論，其他他自行閱讀的書籍，有問題我們再來進行討論
即便如此，我為了每天可以陪小牛進行一本英文書籍閱讀後討論，仍然需要常趁著孩子們去睡覺後熬夜苦讀
但是，看著他在短時間內，英文可以進步這麼快
我想除了上學後英文環境的薰陶外，課後的大量英文閱讀應該也是個關鍵
通常他閱讀的書單，有一些是我幫他選的，尤其是nonfiction的書籍
而有一些是他自己選的，通常他會受學校老師或同學的影響，而選擇他想要閱讀的書籍
像最近他非常喜歡閱讀Robert Munsch的書，因為老師最近都在念這個作者的書，所以小牛要我從我們city圖書館借了許多
也接觸一些sport的書，尤其他目前非常著迷打曲棍球和跆拳道，所以我也借了一些書讓他看，這些運動方面的書他也都愛不釋手
而且他也因為這些書，學了好多專業的術語
